I started cooking when I was young with my grandmother who basically stuck with whatever she could find in our old Amish cookbooks.

As I got older, and had to feed a kid (turned kidS) on a budget, I learned to think outside the box. I still wanted to make everything from scratch and with stuff I could find in my back yard (by that I mean the roadside market near my house), but I also wanted it to be delicious and affordable.

I obviously stray from a lot of the traditional recipes, but for me it’s more about maintaining the concept of keeping the food real and authentic to your surroundings. I love using local ingredients and making food from the heart. I also like electricity, too, so the Amish thing only goes so far.
